My high school experience was not really a good one. I remember in the 10th grade my English teacher made us watch old "Twilight Zone" shows and had us write about the show. There was no Vocabulary words that much. We just sat and watched, I felt that I was in the "Twilight Zone".
Senior year, I had a great Government teacher. You might know him he is now the Bethlehem Mayor. When he got a migraine he would let us go home for the day. I was was lucky the class was my last of the day. He taught us so many things and I love that class. I was in Chorus and Show choir for the girls Glee Club. I got to go to Canada and compete with them and We won first place.
I went to Allen High School or William Allen. I am not the only person from my family that went there. My Grandmother went there when it was still Allentown High. Then my Mom and Dad, and my Uncle.
I was told that I was not good enough for college by my Guidance councilor. Mr. Knapp, he was not nice and not very encouraging. He said that I was a nice girl and had no potetential and should just look to marry a nice boy and settle down.
Well, Mr. Knapp I made it through Business School and how I am gearing to beat you at your words and hope to make it through college.
Alicia,
ReplyDeleteThat is an incredible story! Do you think times have changed? Do HS counselors still do this to students? And I wonder if he would have said the same thing to a male student.
Sometimes those negative comments can motivate us!
Eileen

ReplyDeleteI think that unfortunately guidance counselors still do this today. Good for you for working hard and proving yours wrong! I think will your willingness and hard work you will definitely make it through college. Keep it up!
